The Boxx Orchestra was founded by keyboard player and songwriter Jan Boekestein. In the 70’s and 80’s Jan played in symphonic rock band Argyll and later in power rock band The Boxx. Both bands had their roots in the music scene of The Hague.
Leadsinger Ria Mulder started as bass player and went singing in cover- and big bands. Guitarist Jos van der Zanden, comes from a musical family and played in several cover bands. Walter Hüsstege, multi-instrumentalist and composer at progrock band Cause 17 signed in for the basslines. De line up is completed by drummer Kees Schollen who played in various ‘Hammondrock’ bands like Bonfire and Challenger.
De music of The Boxx Orchestra can best be described as symphonic power rock. Sometimes complex almost ‘classic’ and then again “straight between the eyes” rock. How much power, the songs are always rich on melody harmonic and rhythmic ‘surprises’. The bandmembers are inspired by a broad range of musical styles; from Baroque to Hard Rock.
The bands’ setlist contains songs from the Argyll and The Boxx era, however in an ‘upgraded 2023’ version, added with much new material.
Inspired by the bizarre situation caused by covid, the band released early 2021 its debut single The Eye of the Storm as a tribute to all healthcare workers.
In may 2021 the second single A Star Almost Fell was released. In November 2021 the debut album ‘Out of the Boxx’ saw the light. This album is available as CD and of course on all streaming platforms.
